CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, March 9, 2023. – The National Volleyball Federation of Guatemala welcomed the Boys U19 NORCECA Continental Championship to be held from March 11-19 during a press conference.
Carlos Enrique Santis Rangel, president of the National Federation, alongside other members of the organizing committee presented details of the competition that has eight participating teams who will battle for two berths to the 2025 FIVB Boys U19 World Championship.
Santis Rangel said “Guatemala has experience in hosting international events, but it’s always a challenge; I want to thank NORCECA and Guatemala’s Sport Confederation for their support in welcoming this important continental event that qualifies two teams to the world championship”.
Guatemalan team captain Adolfo Rivas and head coach Luis Fernando Castañeda were present to answer questions for the local press. Rivas indicated his team is highly motivated to play at home and Castañeda specified that 9 players are from Guatemala’s province and 3 from the Guatemala City.
Inspection visits to the competition and training venues are scheduled for March 11, as well as a joint meeting between the NORCECA control committee and the organizing committee. Teams will go through the preliminary inquiry on March 12.
Pool-play will start on Monday 13, with the first ranked teams from each group advancing directly into the semifinals, while second and third places will play in the quarterfinal round of the event. Medal matches will be played on Saturday 18.

Cuba was crowned champion in the past edition held in 2018 in San José, Costa Rica, facing the United States who finished second place; Puerto Rico took third place after beating Guatemala.
