USA Hodel/Durish Win Gold in Punta Cana 

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, October 4, 2024. – Americans Xolani Hodel and Alexis Durish defeated the Canadian tandem of Amy Ozee and Kaylee Glagau 2-0 (21-7, 21-16) on  Friday to claim the gold medal at the fifth stop of the 2024 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, held at Los Corales beach in Punta Cana. 

The U.S. team of Mariah Whalen/Molly Phillips took bronze by defeating T’ara Austin/Taylor Buckner of the U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-6, 21-13)

In fifth place, Canada’s Sophia Hladyniuk/Abbey Thorup overcame the Dominican duo of  Darlenys Olivo/Crismil Paniagua 2-0 (21-8, 21-13), while seventh place went to Costa Rica’s Laura Molina/Aliza Aguilar, who defeated Daniela Vigil/Karla Tovar of El Salvador 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-8). 

Nicaragua’s Nahima Silva/Lolette Rodríguez beat Dominicans Karla Ramírez/Nallelin Taveras 2-1 (22-20, 17-21, 15-13) to finish in ninth place, while Cubans Amanda Drik/Mileidy Paret secured eleventh place by defeating Amanda Robinson/Joanna Robinson of the Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-19, 21-15). 

Thirteenth place went to Guatemala’s Ana Arévalo/Danna Aguilar, who triumphed over Jamaica’s Kristina Lumsden/Petal Smith 2-0 (21-14, 21-11).

Cuba Claims Men’s Gold at the Fifth Stop of the 2024 NORCECA Beach Tour

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, October 4, 2024 .- Cubans Damián Gómez and Kens Veranes defeated the Dominican Republic duo of Hayerlin De Jesús/Rolvin Maldonado 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) this Friday to secure the gold medal at the fifth stop of the 2024 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, held at the sand courts of Los Corales beach in Punta Cana. 

The bronze medal went to Canada’s Tynan Gannett/Rouzbeh Rahnavard, who overcame Garrett Bucklin/William Clements from the Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-12, 21-11). 

Womens and mens

 Fifth place went to Lev Priima/David Wieczorek from the United States, who bounced back after losing the first set to defeat Nicaragua’s Josué Meneses/Dany López 2-1 (16-21, 21-12, 15-10), while seventh place was secured by Canada’s Martin Licht/Robert Kemp, after beating the Cayman Islands’ Jesario Ebanks/Sean Tucker 2-0 (21-7, 21-12). 

Ninth place went twins Yoel and Christopher Guardado of El Salvador, who defeated  Bejamin Barnett/Sean Tucker 2-0 (21-8, 21-17) of Bermudas. In eleventh place, Ryck Webb/Mark Blake from Jamaica claimed victory over Trinidad and Tobago’s Joel Theodore/Stephen Enile 2-0 (21-6, 21-19), while the Dominican duo of Melvin De Jesús/Alexander Wilmore finished in thirteenth after defeating José Izaguirre/Mario Ventura of Guatemala 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 15-11).

In the quarterfinals, the duo of Ozee/Glagau defeated fellow Canadians Sophia Hladyniuk/Abbey Thorup 2-0 (21-19, 21-15), while Austin/Buckner from the U.S. Virgin Islands beat Dominicans Darlenys Olivo/Crismil Paniagua 2-0 (21-16, 21-12).

The two U.S. teams dominated two Central American pairs to advance to the semis. Whalen/Phillips defeated Daniela Vigil/Karla Tovar from El Salvador 2-0 (21-8, 21-12), and Hodel/Durish easily overcame Laura Molina/Aliza Aguilar from Costa Rica 2-0 (21-9, 21-1).

On Friday morning, the placement matches will take place, followed by the Semifinals, between  Whalen/Phillips (USA) vs. Hodel/Dunish (USA) and Ozee/Glagau (CAN) vs. Austin/Buckner (ISV). The day will conclude with the Bronze Medal match and Final scheduled for the afternoon.

In Friday’s first semifinal, De Jesús/Maldonado (DOM) will face Bucklin/Clements (ISV), followed by the other semifinal between Gannett/Rahnavard (CAN) and Gómez/Veranes (CUB).

The Dominican duo De Jesús/Maldonado defeated the U.S. team of Lev Priima/David Wieczorek 2-0 (25-23, 21-17) in the quarterfinals. Likewise, Bucklin/Clements (ISV) overcame Canada’s Martin Licht/Robert Kemp 2-0 (24-22, 21-17).

De Jesús/Maldonado from the Dominican Republic defeated Bermuda’s Benjamin Barnnett/Sean Tucker 2-0 (21-14, 21-7), while their other match was a BYE.

The Virgin Islands team of Bucklin/Clements overcame Jamaica’s Ryck Webb/Martin Blake 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) and the Dominican duo Melvin De Jesús/Alexander Wilmore 2-0 (21-14, 21-9).

The event is being held on the sands of Los Corales Beach in Punta Cana.

Whalen/Phillips (USA) defeated Cuba’s Maykelin Drik/Mileidy Paret 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) in their first match, with their second win coming via BYE. Meanwhile, the other U.S. duo, Hodel/Durish, overcame Guatemala’s Ana Arévalo/Danna Aguilar 2-0 (21-7, 21-11) and Nicaragua’s Nahima Silva/Lolette Rodríguez 2-0 (21-13, 21-4).
