COLIMA, Mexico, August 9, 2025 – Cuba defeated Canada 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19) this Saturday to secure seventh place in the XXII Senior Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup at the Multifunctional Auditorium of the Morelos Sports Complex in Colima, Mexico.
Cuba dominated Canada in attacks 61-50 and in serves 8-6, while the Canadians were superior in blocks 11-10.
Middle blocker Laura Suárez led Cuba on offense with 17 points, Yanisleidis Sánchez scored 14, followed by Dayana Martínez with 13, while Ivy May Vila and Evilania Martínez each contributed with 11.

For Canada, captain Sydney Grills had 16 points, while Jasmine Rivest and Taylor de Boer added 13 and 11 respectively.
Manuel Torres, Cuba coach: “In my opinion, it was a good game, from the first moment, we faced Team Canada, a strong and organized team, and we needed to play well to get the most out of the match, we worked set by set, and well, we got the result.”
Matthew Krueger, Canada coach: “I think we came out today and fought, unlike the previous match, when we came from less to more, today we came out better prepared and competed, credit to Cuba, who played incredibly, they had a slow start but made some adjustments, and that added more energy to their game, they played very well today.”
