Calgary, Aug. 10, 2025: After beating Barbados 3-0 today, Mexico finishes in fifth place in the standings of the 2025 NORCECA U21 Men’s Pan American Cup at the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
After a very close first set that went into extra points, Mexico settled in to take the match 3-0 (31-29, 25-16, 25-17).
Mexico led in attack points (50-40) and blocks (7-5). Aces were even at two each. Mexico received more points from its opponent’s errors: 22-15.
Mexico’s Luis Ayala (14 kills and a block) was top scorer of this match with 15; while Kaden Hoyte of Barbados (12 kills and two blocks) had a total of 14.
Mexico’s head coach Erick Eduardo Hernández was pleased to see his team end the tournament on a high note: “We are very grateful to all the fans who attended the matches and very thankful to Volleyball Canada for the excellent organization. We’re happy to have closed the tournament with a victory; we are not satisfied with the team’s performance throughout the tournament, but we are in a process, and we know better things are coming.”
Barbados finished sixth overall, and despite not earning a win, the team made improvements throughout the tournament and challenged some of the higher-ranked teams with several very close sets.
