NASSAU, The Bahamas, August 16 – The 19th CAZOVA CVC tournament serves off today in the beautiful tourist island of Nassau, The Bahamas with defending men’s champions Suriname looking to add a third title to the one they first won in 2018 and reclaimed last year as hosts in Paramaribo.
The kings were the first at the preliminary enquiry and after meeting all of the requirements team Suriname indicated they were well prepared to successfully defend their title. A confident Coach Michael Ong-A-Kwie said the addition of talented youngsters with experienced players gives Suriname a great opportunity of repeating.
“The pressure of being the defending champions is good as my players want to repeat. The players at these games have become good friends and they tell my players they are coming to beat us.
“That motivates us to want to beat the other teams and to keep the title. We know that a lot of the teams have been training hard and some of them have been competing at the higher NORCECA events.
“While we consider former champions Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago to be good competition, we also expect something special from the Bahamas who will want to give their home fans something to cheer about.
“We expect this championship to be a keen battle as all of our opponents will have to bring their best game to dethrone Suriname,” said Ong-A-Kwie.
Suriname’s who are in the Men’s Pool A with hosts, The Bahamas and Jamaica will play first game on Tuesday against Jamaica.
