Puerto Rico finishes World Championship campaign falling to Brazil

August 26, 2025. The Puerto Rican National Team finished their FIVB Women’s Volleyball Championship campaign falling to Brazil, number two in the world ranking, who prevailed clearly 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18).

The Puerto Ricans, who had previously fallen against France and Greece, faced one of the big favorites for the title and could not stop the South American strength in offense and blocking. Brazil dominated widely in all fundamentals: 38-24 in kills, 17-5 in blocks and 3-0 in serves, in addition to committing fewer errors (11-17).

In the Boricua offense, the outside hitters were the most outstanding. Valeria Vázquez finished with 11 points, all in kills, while Paola Santiago contributed 10, also in direct attacks.

Opposite Decelise Champion highlighted the experience gained in the tournament:

“It was very exciting to be here. It was fun but also very challenging. We have learned to connect better as a team and to play more united. We will arrive at the next tournaments with better chemistry and more organization.”

With this defeat, Puerto Rico says goodbye to the tournament without victories, but with valuable competitive lessons looking ahead to their international future.

Brazil, for their part, advanced undefeated as leader of Pool C with three consecutive triumphs and will face in the Round of 16 the second place of Pool F, which will be defined between China and the Dominican Republic.
