Dominicans Ramírez and Almánzar advance to next round in Hato Mayor

HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic, November 4, 2022.- Dominicans Bethania Almánzar and Esmeralda Ramírez advanced to the second round of the sixth stage of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Hato Mayor.

Almanzar and Ramírez dominated their two outings during the first day of the event that gathers fifteen teams in the women’s field.

In their first performance they beat Heather Thompson and Jessica Wolfenden of Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) and then Natalia Girón alongside Laura Quiñonez of Guatemala 2-0 (21-13, 21-15), advancing to quarterfinals as pool D winners.

Meanwhile, the duo of Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom of the United States, winners of the fifth stage in Managua, dominated pool A with victories over Socorro López and Lolette Rodríguez of Nicaragua by 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) and against Mexicans Atenas Gutiérrez and María Celeste Ibarra 2-0 (21-12, 21-16). 

The winners of pool B were Canadians Amanda Harnett and Marie-Alex Bélanger, who are aiming to win their first gold after finishing third place in Punta Cana and second in Managua, defeated Brenda Allen y Shanicia Dyer of St. Kitts & Nevis 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) and Katherine Albarrán and Evelyn Ramos of Mexico 2-0 (21-10, 21-8).

In pool B, Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas alongside María Gonzalez prevailed against Dominicans Paniagua/Cleto 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) and over Devin Corah and Adriel Goodman of Canada 2-0 (21-17, 21-15).

Day two of the NORCECA Tour in Hato Mayor continues Saturday starting at 8:00 am.
