SEVEN MILE BEACH, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, November 11, 2022.- The duos of Mexico, United States, Canada and Costa Rica advanced to the quarterfinal round of the seventh stage of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Cayman Islands after winning pool-play.
Mexicans Jorge Barajas and Gabriel Cruz in pool A, won 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) over Martin Blake and Owayne Lawrence of Jamaica, who defeated Shawn Seabrookes and Nage Hendrickson of St. Kitts and Nevis 2-0 (21-16, 23-21).
In pool B, Americans Ian Satterfield and Jake Urrutia beat two Central American teams; first Pepe Vargas and Armando Guatemala of El Salvador 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) and then they had a tough first set against Andy Leonardo Blanco alongside Luis García of Guatemala 2-0 (29-27, 21-13).
Liam Kopp and Arran Chambers of Canada won pool C with victories over Jon Isaacs and Donavain Wilmott of Bahamas 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) and Marc Lomeli/Daniel Samuelson of the U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-8, 21-19).
Finishing first place in pool D was for Criforth Fallas Lobo and Daniel Dyner of Costa Rica who beat Ian Bucci and Brandon Sousa of Bermuda 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) and Casey Santamaría with Jesario Ebanks of Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-10, 21-17).
In other results, Blanco/García of Guatemala and Pepe/Guatemala of El Salvador defeated Davies/Hamilton of Bermuda 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) and 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) respectively in pool B.
In pool C, Lomeli/Samuelson (ISV) beat Barrozo/Wright (CAY) 2-0 (21-10, 21-10) and Bahamas of Isaacs/Wilmott also beat Barrozo/Wright, but in three sets (16-21, 25-23, 13-15).
Lastly, in pool D Casey Santamaría/Jesario Ebanks (CAY) defeated Rony Fleridor/Olando Joseph of Haiti 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) who then went on to win 2-0 (21-15, 22-20) against Bucci/Sousa of Bahamas 2-0.
On Saturday, Blanco/García (GUA) will play Fleridor/Olando (HAI), Lomeli/Samuelson (ISV) go up against Seabrookes/Nage (SKN), Santamaría/Jesario (CAY) face Pepe/Guatemala (ESA) and Blake/Lawrence (JAM) meet Isaacs/Wilmott (BAH) to advance to quarterfinals.
