SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 27, 2024.– Costa Rica will once again host the AFECAVOL Under 17 and Under 19 Central American Beach Volleyball Championships, set to take place on the sand courts of La Sabana on November 30 and December 1.
Costa Rica has hosted all editions of the U17 and U19 Central American Beach Volleyball Championships. The first event was held in 2018, when Puntarenas hosted the inaugural U19 Championship. Last year, the first U17 and the second U19 editions were held simultaneously at La Sabana.
Costa Rica dominated the U19 category in 2023, with Julián Araya and Yulius Brown, as well as Valentina Molina and Aliza Aguilar, crowned champions. The silver and bronze medals in the men’s category went to Roberto Recinos/José Daniel Guevara of Guatemala and Víctor Araúz/Adamit del Cid Moreno of Panama, respectively. In the women’s category, silver was awarded to Guatemala’s Maritza Zúñiga/Danna Aguilar, and bronze went to Nicaragua’s Yuliana Chávez/Kadderly Rosales.
In the inaugural U17 Championship, Nicaragua’s Ella Resau and Yulimar Alvarado, along with Costa Rica’s Stanley Grant and Cristian Oporta, were crowned champions. The men’s silver went to Guatemala’s Juan Carlos Menéndez and Daniel Sosa, while Panama’s Yustin Gantes and Einar Rodríguez earned bronze. In the women’s division, El Salvador’s Devora Medina and Daniela Vigil, as well as Costa Rica’s Sury Jiménez and Mariana Fallas, took second and third place, respectively.
The 2nd U17 Central American Championship and the 3rd U19 Central American Championship will feature teams from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the host country, Costa Rica.
In the U17 category, nine teams are registered, with El Salvador participating only in the men’s division. Meanwhile, the U19 category has ten teams registered, with one duo per gender from each country.
The delegations are scheduled to arrive in San José on Thursday, November 28. The preliminary meeting, court recognition, and practical refereeing clinic will take place on Friday, November 30. The competition will run on Saturday, November 30, and Sunday, December 1.
