Antigua Claims Victory over Anguilla in the ECVA U23 Men’s Championship

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, November 12, 2025. – Antigua made a commanding start to the 2025 ECVA U23 Men’s Championship by sweeping Anguilla 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-17) in their opening match held at the YMCA in St. John’s.

Antigua demonstrated dominance in all scoring categories, leading with 38 attacks to Anguilla’s 13, 4 blocks to 1, and 8 service points to 4. The teams were closely matched in errors, with Antigua committing 25 and Anguilla 23.

Outside hitter Jedidiah Christian was a standout performer for Antigua, scoring 7 points, followed closely by opposite hitter George Freeland with 6 points. For Anguilla, middle blocker Amani Richardson led the scoring with 5 points, while outside hitter Shaquoy Reid contributed 4 points.

From the outset, Antigua maintained rhythm and control, closing the first set decisively. As the match progressed, Antigua continued to dominate, finishing the second set with a resounding score of 25-10. The third set sealed the victory for Antigua as they surged ahead by 8 points, ultimately winning the set 25-17.

Michael Hamilton, Coach of Antigua, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We feel great about our win. Considering our opponent, we used this opportunity to identify areas for improvement.”

Amani Richardson, Captain of Anguilla, reflected on the experience, saying, “We are a young team, with most players participating in the ECVA tournament for the first time. This has been a valuable experience, and we have a lot to work on when we return home.”

Ian Connor, Coach of Anguilla, added, “Our service was poor, and we need to focus on consistency and positioning during spikes. We can improve as we move forward, as this is our first experience in such a competitive setting.”
