ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, November 15, 2025. – Antigua has secured a coveted spot in the Gold Medal match of the U23 Men’s Championship after a thrilling encounter with St. Vincent, winning 3-2 in match number fifteen held at the YMCA, St. John’s. The set scores were 23-25, 19-25, 25-11, 25-19, 15-12.
With this victory, Antigua finishes the tournament with a record of 4-1, solidifying their place in the finals scheduled for this Sunday. St. Vincent, finishing in fifth place, will now compete for the 5th-6th position.
In a closely contested match, Antigua outperformed St. Vincent in several key statistics, achieving 41 kills to St. Vincent’s 29, recording 10 blocks against 6, and delivering 11 aces compared to St. Vincent’s 6. However, Antigua faced challenges with 41 errors, in contrast to St. Vincent’s 29.
Outside hitter Khaliq Joseph was the standout performer for Antigua, leading the scorers with a remarkable 16 points. Duncan Tariq emerged as St. Vincent’s highest scorer with 17 points.
Head coach Michael Hamilton remarked on the match, stating, “A five-setter wasn’t on the cards, but we knew that winning this game would secure our spot in the finals. St. Vincent came out to play and caught us off guard. Sports are very unpredictable, but we pushed through in the end and won.”
