YAUCO, Puerto Rico, November 5, 2025. – The Cafeteros de Yauco and the Gigantes de Carolina faced off this Wednesday at the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras Coliseum in an intense match that the Cafeteros won in five sets (22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-18, 15-8).
The result split honors between the two teams, who now share fourth place in the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) standings. Yauco earned 2 points from the victory (3-2, totaling 7 points), while Carolina gained 1 point (2-3, also totaling 7 points). This was the only match on the schedule during the tournament’s third week of action.
With a two-sets-to-one lead for the Gigantes, the Cafeteros improved their defense in the fourth set. A service ace from Colombian player Felipe Castañeda sparked an 18-14 run that allowed Yauco to force a decisive fifth set.
Yauco reached set point at 24-18 with a quick middle attack from veteran Jessie Colón and sealed the frame with another ace.
In the tiebreak, an attack error by Cameron Milligan from position four gave the Cafeteros a 6-3 lead, and they never relinquished control. A powerful spike from Castañeda, another error by Milligan from position two, and an illegal back-row attack by Geraldo Rivera extended the home team’s advantage, securing the set 11-4.
Yauco reached match point at 14-6 with a left-side attack from Danny Rivera and closed the contest 15-8 with a successful swing from position two by Brandon Rattray.
In team statistics, Yauco led in attacks (55-43), aces (10-7), and assists (31-17). Carolina held the edge in blocks (7-6), digs (42-39), and receptions (50-38).
The Cafeteros’ offense was powered by Brandon Rattray, who scored 26 points (21 attacks and 5 aces), and Felipe Castañeda, who added 20 points. For Carolina, Nomar Galarza led with 14 points, followed by Geraldo Rivera with 13.
