NARANJITO, Puerto Rico, October 26, 2024: The Cafeteros de Yauco evened their quarterfinal series in the Men’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSM) to one win apiece, as they avenged their previous loss to the Plataneros de Corozal with a four-set victory.
Cafeteros and Plataneros had previously staged a five-set thriller, with Plataneros taking the first match; this time, it was Yauco who came out on top.
The match took place at the iconic Gelito Ortega court in Naranjito, which served as the Plataneros’ temporary home for the night.
The score in favor for Yauco 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-18).
The Cafeteros outperformed the Plataneros in blocks (11 to 6) and aces (5 to 1), while the Plataneros led in attacks (51 to 46), digs (39 to 33), and assists (22 to 17).
The winning offense was led by Eddie Rivera with 15 points, Mark Frazier with 14, Diego Negrón with 13, and Jessie Colón with 11.
For Corozal, Spencer Olivier scored 14 points, followed by Sebastián Negrón with 11, and Julio Mercedes and Ramón Matos with 10 each.
The Quarterfinal Series are best-of-five, with the first team to win three games advancing. The series continues on Monday, October 28, at the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras court in Yauco at 8:00 pm.
