Caribes, Patriotas, and Plataneros Prevail in Sunday’s LVSM Action

SAN SEBASTIÁN, Puerto Rico, November 15, 2025. – In Sunday action of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM), the Caribes de San Sebastián, Patriotas de Lares, and Plataneros de Corozal secured key victories in their respective matchups.

San Sebastián Withstands Cafeteros’ Rally to Stay on Top

At the Luis Aymat Cardona Coliseum in “El Pepino,” the Caribes dominated the first two sets and, in the third, jumped ahead 16-10 thanks to a powerful spike from Corey Chavers, forcing the Yauco Cafeteros to call an urgent timeout.

San Sebastián extended the lead to 18-12 with two straight points from middle blocker Pedro Nieves, one on a block and another on an attack. However, a 10-5 run by Yauco brought them within one point (22-23). A defensive error by the Caribes tied the score at 23.

The Caribes reached set point at 24-23 with another Chavers attack off the Yauco block. The duel remained tight until 28-28, when Pelegrín Vargas Jr. struck with precision from zone four and Mark Frazier blocked Danny Rivera to seal the victory.

San Sebastián secured all three points and now stands alone in first place with an 8-1 record and 21 points. Yauco dropped to fourth at 6-3 with 15 points.

Vargas Jr. led with 21 points, followed by Frazier (13) and Chavers (12) for San Sebastián. For Yauco, Juan Felipe Castañeda contributed 14 points.

Lares Rallies and Splits Points with Carolina

The Patriotas de Lares came from behind to defeat the Gigantes de Carolina in five sets at the Félix Méndez Acevedo Coliseum. The scores were 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 15-6.

Lares added two points to stay in second place with a 7-2 record and 20 points. Carolina, despite the loss, earned one point and sits in fifth place at 4-5 with 13 points.

Garrett Muagututia led the way with 24 points, followed by Nick West (16) and Pablo Guzmán (13) in the Patriotas’ victory. For Carolina, Cameron Milligan tallied 16 points and Félix Chapman added 14.

Plataneros Silence the Mets in Guaynabo

The Plataneros de Corozal defeated the Mets de Guaynabo on the road in four sets: 25-16, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17. With this victory, Corozal claimed all three points and climbed to third place with a 6-3 record and 18 points.

Guaynabo remains in seventh place at 2-7 with 7 points.

Jalen Penrose and Spencer Olivier led Corozal’s attack with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Johansen Negrón topped Guaynabo’s scoring with 19 points, followed by Josué Rivera with 11.
