GUADALAJARA, Jalisco, April 11, 2026.– In a thrilling match that marked the start of a historic final, Coronelas de Durango defeated Tapatías de Guadalajara in five sets, 3-2 (25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 20-25, 15-6), at the Joly Ramírez Gymnasium, taking the lead in the Grand Final of the Mexican Professional Volleyball League (LVP MX).
The match, the opening chapter of the best-of-three series, was filled with intensity and excitement, showcasing the high competitive level of this inaugural edition of the league. Coronelas, who finished the regular season undefeated, extended their winning streak and moved one victory away from claiming the championship.
Daniela Bernal Barraza of Coronelas was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) thanks to her outstanding performance.
From a statistical standpoint, Coronelas showed superiority in key fundamentals, leading in attacks (63-50) and blocks (13-12), while both teams recorded three aces each.
Offensively, Atenas Gutiérrez led Coronelas with 20 points (19 kills and one ace), followed by Klaudia Pawlik with 16 points (8 kills and 8 blocks) and Melissa Garciglia, also with 16 points (15 kills and one ace). Michelle Lizárraga added 15 points (14 kills and one block).
For Tapatías, Seomara Sainz stood out with 25 points (22 kills and 3 blocks), supported by Jocelyn Urías with 12 points (11 kills and one block) and María Fernanda Anizares with 11 points (8 kills and 3 blocks).
The series will move to Durango for the second match, scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at the Auditorio del Pueblo, where Coronelas will aim to clinch the championship in front of their home crowd. If necessary, a decisive third match will be played on Sunday, April 19 at the same venue.
