Corozal Stops the Perfect Run of the Two-Time Champions!

BARRANQUITAS, Puerto Rico, November 14, 2025. – The Corozal Plataneros handed the two-time defending champions, the Caribes de San Sebastián, their first loss of the season by defeating them in four sets in the only match of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) held on Friday night.

The match took place at the Juan C. Berríos court, the Plataneros’ temporary home this season while renovations continue at the Carmen Z. Figueroa.

The set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, and 25-23.

With the victory, Corozal claimed all three available points and improved their record to 5-3 with 15 accumulated points, tying the Cafeteros de Yauco (6-2, 15 points) for third place in the standings.

Meanwhile, the Caribes suffered their first defeat of the season and now stand at 7-1 with 18 points, still tied for first place with  Patriotas de Lares (6-2, 18 points).

In the fourth set, with a 2-1 lead,  Plataneros opened with a commanding 6-0 run. Although Caribes managed to cut into the lead, Corozal reached the technical timeout ahead, 12-8.

With Guillermo Moya blocking Ezequiel Cruz, Corozal stayed in front 19-16. However, San Sebastián responded with a 6-2 run that included attacks by Cruz from zone two and Pelegrín Vargas from zone four, taking a brief 22-21 lead.

The set was tied at 22 and again at 23, until Spencer Olivier delivered a precise attack from zone four and an offensive error by Cruz allowed the Plataneros to close the victory and end the Caribes’ undefeated streak.

Corozal’s double-digit offense was led by Spencer Olivier (24 points) and Jalen Penrose (18 points).

For San Sebastián, standout performances came from Pelegrín Vargas (18), Ezequiel Cruz (12), and Corey Chavers (10).
