Costa Rica Captures Its Third Consecutive Title at the 15th AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 15, 2025.– Costa Rica and Nicaragua delivered an intense battle, Costa Rican prevailing in five hard-fought sets, 3-2 (25-15, 29-31, 22-25, 25-18, 15-10), to claim the title of the 15th AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship.

For Costa Rica, this marks their third consecutive crown and their tenth title in the category, strengthening their position as the team with the most championships at this level.

For Costa Rica, María Vanegas led the attack with 20 points, while Mariana Fallas added 16 and Amanda Campos contributed 13 to her team’s victory.

For Nicaragua, Keysha Solís was the only player to reach double digits, scoring 11 points. Fernanda Ríos finished with 9, and Franchesca Viera contributed 8.

A key factor in Costa Rica’s victory was their collective attacking power, outscoring Nicaragua 54-36. They also held advantages in blocking (10-9) and service points (8-4).

In unforced errors, Costa Rica conceded 50 points compared to Nicaragua’s 44.

After the match, Costa Rica’s coach Sandra Umaña said: “It was a final-worthy match against a well-structured and well-led Nicaraguan team. But we accomplished the objective we set for ourselves, we came to this event for the gold and for the three-peat. The players delivered perfectly, without underestimating the opponent, because it truly was a final-worthy match.”

Meanwhile, Nicaragua’s coach Claudia Noguera said: “The team fought until the end. It was a good championship for us. Against Costa Rica, we came from behind after losing the first set, managed to win the next two, but in the end, the team’s consistency didn’t hold. Still, we are satisfied with having secured second place.”
