San Salvador, El Salvador, November 13, 2025. Costa Rica prevailed in an intense battle against Guatemala, earning a 3-2 victory (26-28, 29-27, 25-15, 17-25, 15-10) to claim the top spot in Pool A and secure a better position for the semifinal matchups at the 15th AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship.
Costa Rica closes the group stage with a 2-0 record and will face Honduras in the semifinals, while Guatemala, finishing 1-1, will take on Nicaragua in the next phase.
Costa Rica and Guatemala delivered a highly competitive match from start to finish, where unforced errors ultimately weighed heavily on Guatemala, who gave away 47 points compared to Costa Rica’s 43.

Costa Rica narrowly outperformed Guatemala in attack points (49-48) and blocks (8-6), while both teams finished tied in aces (8-8).
María Vanegas led Costa Rica’s offense with 19 points, while teammate Amanda Campos contributed 11.
For Guatemala, Melissa Guerra stood out with 21 points, supported by Andrea Garcés with 12 and Annika Graniolati with 10.
After the win, Costa Rica’s captain, Mariana Fallas, stated: “It was a very close match. In some sets we were very even, but we managed to come out on top. Today we showed that we are going to give everything on the court, and we want to maintain that drive in the semifinal.”
Meanwhile, Guatemala’s captain, Natalia Pérez, explained: “We gave everything on the court. I am very proud of my teammates, who gave their best. We are still in the semifinals, so we’ll go all out in that round, aiming to secure a medal.”
