On Monday morning, each pair will play their final preliminary match: Costa Rica vs. Nicaragua, and Guatemala vs. Panama, which will determine the final rankings. The top team will advance directly to the semifinals.

Alvarado-Quiñonez GUA (2)

Ramírez and Araya earned two key victories on Sunday to keep their unbeaten streak alive. They opened the day with a commanding 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) win over Shanna Rivera and Reizel Bruhier of Honduras. Later, they defeated the host duo Paola Alvarado and Laura Quiñónez of Guatemala 2-0 (21-14, 21-16). Guatemala held an early lead in the first set (13-11), and after tying 7-7 in the second, the Costa Ricans’ strong attacking and solid defense pushed them to close the match in straight sets.

Earlier, Alvarado/Quiñónez of Guatemala had handed Nicaragua’s López/Rodríguez their first loss of the tournament in a hard-fought three-set battle, 2-1 (15-21, 22-20, 15-11). After a tight start (10-10), Nicaragua pulled ahead with kills from Lolette, but Guatemala rallied to level the score and, after a tense finish, forced a decider. In the third set, precise plays from Quiñónez and the powerful offense of Alvarado sealed the victory for the home team.

Sabal-Pilgrim BIZ

Meanwhile, El Salvador’s Karla Tovar and Daniela Vigil recorded two important wins to improve their record to 2-3. They first swept Clara Sabal and Aaliyah Pilgrim of Belize 2-0 (21-7, 21-14) and then came from behind to defeat Ingrid Lezcano and Krisleen González of Panama 2-1 (15-21, 21-8, 15-10). The match was briefly paused due to an ankle injury suffered by Lezcano in the deciding set.

To close the day, Bruhier/Rivera (HON) earned a quick victory over Sabal/Pilgrim (BIZ) 2-0 (21-8, 21-8). The Honduran pair now hold a 2-3 record, while the Belizean duo finished the preliminary round in seventh place with 0-6.
