SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 15, 2024.- Cuba achieved its first victory in XVII edition of the Pan American Men’s Volleyball Cup after beating Colombia in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21), at the “Ricardo Arias” National Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
Cuba was better in attacks 42-27 and in serves 6-3, while Colombia dominated in blocks 8-6.
Victor Andreu was the most productive for Cuba with 14 points, while Carlos Charles and Bryan Camino contributed with 13 and 12 points respectively. For Colombia Andrés Piza scored 9 points and Jharold Caicedo added 7.
Julio Gómez, captain of Cuba: It was an important match for us since it was the first and we did what we were expecting against Colombia, which was to obtain the victory since the last time we faced them we suffered a loss and thanks to that today things went well for us, and we were able to go out with a 3-0 lead.
Leandro Mejía, captain of Colombia: We knew that Cuba was a very strong opponent, they are very physical, that is why it was very difficult for us to serve them since they come out very hard, we do not come with a good rhythm of play, which is one of the things that we must fix in the future.
