GATINEAU- August 11, 2022: The United States fell to Cuba today in both teams’ final Pan American Cup Group A match – 0-3 (21-25, 20-25, 19-25) at the Slush Puppie Centre in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.
A strong offense led to Cuba’s sweep – leading 44-31 in attack points. USA led in blocking (8-5) and service points were even at three each. Cuba also capitalized on the United States’ errors (18-23).
Cuban opposite Jesus Herrera led the winning team in scoring with 16 points; followed by Miguel Angel Lopez Castro with 12. For the U.S., opposite Jake Hanes led that team’s scoring with 13 points.
This was the North American team’s first loss, while Cuba remains undefeated to top Group A.
