Cuba Triumphs Over Iran

May 5, 2024. – Cuba finished the first week of Volleyball Nations League with a 3-1 victory (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 25-21) over Iran in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

At the conclusion of the first week of action, Cuba’s record stands at 3-1.

The victory earned Cuba 4.4 points, for a total of 261.17 points, placing them in 9th place in the rankings, within the qualification zone for the Olympic Games.

Cuba outperformed Iran in attack points (53-21), block points (9-4), and had a slight edge in aces (7-6). However, Cuba conceded more points on errors (26-20).

Middle blocker Robertlandy Simón and outside hitter Marlon Yanta were Cuba’s top scorers with 14 points each. Simón scored on 8 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 aces, while Yant scored all on kills.

The top scorer of the match was Iran’s Meisam Salehi with 15 points.

Cuba will compete in week two of VNL in Ottawa, Canada.
