SANTA MARTA, Colombia, November 25, 2022.- Cubans Luis Alayo and Noslen Díaz the only undefeated team to reach the men’s semifinals of the first Central American and Caribbean Games of Sea and Beach in Santa Marta.
Alayo and Noslen have proven to be the strongest team of the tournament reaching the semifinals without losses; in quarterfinals they defeated Venezuelans Luisangel Vargas and Willian Perez 2-0 (21-11, 21-14). Vargas and Perez came from beating Dimanche Elsevijf and Timothy Van Henneigen of Curacao 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) in playoffs.
Also reaching semifinals were Cristopher and Yoel Guardado of El Salvador who continue to surprise while managing a comfortable 2-0 (21-9, 21-9) quarterfinal victory over Joshua Persaud and Nicholas Williams of Trinidad and Tobago.
Persaud and Williams (TTO) earlier beat Lorenzo Jn Pierre and Rio Jaden Victor of St. Lucia 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).
Colombians Juan Noriega and Yefferson De La Hoz were determined to be a finalist showing a consistent performance during their two outings of the day. In playoffs, they beat Franco Roark and Lorenzo Rivera of Puerto Rico 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) and then won their quarterfinal match over Nicaragua’s duo of Cristopher and Jefferson Cascante 2-0 (21-15, 21-15).
Alexis Galicia and Isaías Aguirre of Mexico also reached the semifinals winning a thrilling quarterfinal match in a tie-break 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 15-14) against Dominicans Hayerling De Jesús and Oscar Martínez. Isaías Aguirre needed medical assistance due to a minor cut, that made it even more nail biting.
Galicia and Aguirre advanced to quarterfinals after previously beating Crifforth Lobo and José Pablo Fernández of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-15, 21-12).
Saturday’s semifinals feature Cristopher and Yoel Guardado of El Salvador against Luis Alayo and Noslen Díaz of Cuba, and Colombians Juan Noriega and Yefferson De La Hoz against Mexicans Alexis Galicia and Isaías Aguirre.
