SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2025. – Costa Rica displayed its best volleyball to secure a comfortable 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-21) victory over El Salvador in its debut at the XV AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship.
Costa Rica will face Guatemala in the third day of action to close Pool A play, a decisive matchup for the top spot in the pool, as both teams enter with a 1-0 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, El Salvador dropped to 0-2 and will now wait for the third-place definition in Pool B to determine its crossover match for fifth and sixth place in the final standings.

Costa Rica gave El Salvador little room to breathe. Although the Salvadoran side fought back at moments, it lacked the push to truly challenge their opponent.
Costa Rica dominated in attack points 37-16 and service 10-1, and also edged ahead in blocks 4-3.
María Venegas led Costa Rica with 16 points, followed by Mariana Fallas with 10. For El Salvador, María Ramírez was the top scorer with 6 points.
After the match, Sandra Umaña, Costa Rica’s head coach, said: “We’re meeting our objectives one match at a time. This game against El Salvador was about breaking the ice after resting on the first day, but we did very well. We faced a great opponent who kept fighting and made things complicated for us for much of the match.”
Meanwhile, Katya Cunza, captain of El Salvador, stated: “This is clearly a growth process for our team. Unfortunately, we’re learning the hard way, not because we lack talent or will, but simply because things didn’t go our way. Still, this is all part of our growth as players.”
