Dominica Defeats Grenada in the Opening Match of the 2025 ECVA U23 Men’s Championship

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – November 12, 2025 – In an electrifying opening match of the 2025 ECVA U23 Men’s Championship, Dominica triumphed over Grenada with a score of 3-1 (28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18). The match, held at the YMCA in St. John’s, set the tone for an exciting tournament.

Dominica showcased their strength in several key areas, outpacing Grenada in attacks (52-38) and serves (6-4), while Grenada led in blocks (8-7). Both teams demonstrated a competitive spirit, with Dominica committing 36 errors compared to Grenada’s 35.

Leading the charge for Dominica was outside hitter Larian Tulloch, who was instrumental in the victory, scoring 15 points. Opposite hitter Sherron Vidal contributed significantly as well, netting 12 points. For Grenada, Jamal Collins was the standout, leading his team with 11 points.

The match commenced with Dominica capitalizing on Grenada’s early errors, leading to a comfortable win in the first set. They continued to apply pressure, securing a commanding 2-0 lead. While Grenada rallied in the third set, emerging victorious with a score of 25-23, they struggled in the fourth set due to a series of consecutive errors. Dominica seized the opportunity, prevailing 25-18 in the final set to clinch the match.

Ithoma Thomas, Head Coach of Dominica, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance: “We are excited for this win. It’s a good start; the team executed well, but we need to cut back on errors and make the other teams earn their points against us.”

Javin Noel, Head Coach of Grenada, acknowledged his team’s efforts: “We fought a good fight, but our opponents minimized their errors from the onset, which allowed them to win the game. We will keep working on our errors and move ahead to the next game ready.”
