ST JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda, October 24 2024: Dominica and St. Lucia have taken the lead in Pool B of the 2024 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Senior Men’s Championships here at the YMCA Sports Complex.
This as both have recorded two wins to stay as the unbeaten outfits in Pool B.
Dominica beat Anguilla 3-1(19-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-11) and versus St Maarten, it was also 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 19-25, 25- 18).
Meanwhile, St. Lucia has been more efficient, beating their two opponents by 3-0 margins.
Thus, St. Lucia had a 25-10, 25-9, 25-10 win over Saba and versus Anguilla took the match 25-16, 25-19, 25-21.
Reflecting on their sojourn thus far in the championships, Dominica’s Captain- Yahn Florent, pointed to late starts.
“We have been having a late start. We have to warm up in order to get the momentum going”, Florent related.
Despite not being as clinical as they want, Florent said that withstanding the inconsistencies at times, the team is prepared for the battle ahead.
“We know we have more tough matches to come. We have some injury issues, but we are prepared to play through the pain”, a resilient Florent expressed.
Meanwhile, St. Lucia’s Head Coach- Hervan Brown, assessing his team’s output in their two matches, highlighted: “What I have been doing is working my bench getting a feel for what the tournament has to offer. I know what I am doing in the next game”.
The St. Lucia Head Coach said that he used the two matches to mix and match with some of his younger players as well as tighten on some of the errors in an anticipation of stiffer competition in the remaining matches.
The dominant team in the pool will be decided, as Dominica and St. Lucia meet in the two teams’ next match.
