GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 21, 2025.– El Salvador closed its participation in the men’s volleyball tournament of the 12th Central American Games Guatemala 2025 with a 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-21) victory over Honduras, securing sixth place in the competition.
El Salvador ended with a 3-2 record, while Honduras finished winless, taking seventh place. The two teams had already met in the preliminary round, where El Salvador also prevailed in straight sets.
The most dramatic moment came in the second set, when Honduras seemed ready to win after an Arturo Durán attack gave them a 24-23 lead. However, El Salvador tied it with a Favio López spike. The set continued neck-and-neck until Abner Cano scored with an attack, followed by a crucial block from Juan Carlos Vargas against David Villatoro to close it 28-26.

El Salvador outperformed Honduras in attacks (50-37) and committed fewer errors (22-24), while Honduras led in blocking (8-4).
Rodrigo Chávez led El Salvador with 22 points, followed by Abner Cano with 10. For Honduras, David Villatoro scored 12 and Rolando Aguilar added 11.
El Salvador’s head coach, Andrea Genova, said after the match: “Clearly, our goal was to be among the top four teams. We almost made it, playing very close matches like the one against Belize, where we won a set. In the second phase of the tournament, we took the opportunity to rotate players and give young debutants a chance — they played an amazing match against Guatemala. Today there was a bit less intensity, which is natural on the last day, but our experienced players stepped up to get the result.”
