SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 30, 2024.- El Salvador women and Costa Rica men lead the II Central American U17 Beach Championship, which kicked off Saturday on the sand courts at La Sabana in San José, Costa Rica.
The competition began at 9:00 a.m. in the women’s division with a commanding victory by Fátima Rendón/Dévora Medina of El Salvador over Génesis Santamaría/Astrid Rivera of Honduras, 2-0 (21-3, 21-3). Rendón/Medina also dominated Kimberly Silva/Tania Callejas of Nicaragua, 2-0 (21-5, 21-9).
The Costa Rican duo of Amanda Villegas/Luciana Soto also earned two victories. They defeated Marisabel González/Fátima Reina of Guatemala 2-0 (21-11, 21-14) and later secured an easy win against Santamaría/Rivera of Honduras, 2-0 (21-1, 21-8).
The day concluded with a victory by González/Reina of Guatemala over Santamaría/Rivera of Honduras, 2-0 (21-6, 21-14).
Following the women’s results, El Salvador leads the standings, followed by Costa Rica, 3-Guatemala, 4-Honduras and 5-Nicaragua.
In the men’s division, only three matches were played, starting at 11:00 a.m. with a victory by the local duo Cristhian Oporta/Ángel Carranza over Angello Villeda/Jonathan Ortega of Honduras, 2-0 (21-11, 21-13).
In the second match, Robin Oliva/Fredy Luna of Guatemala defeated Mattew Kempf/Diego Cardoza of Nicaragua, 2-0 (21-15, 21-14).
The day ended with another win for the Costa Rican pair, Oporta/Carranza, over Kempf/Cardoza of Nicaragua, 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).
Costa Rica leads the standings, 2-Guatemala, 3-Nicaragua and 4-Honduras.
