SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, December 1, 2024. The tandems of Fátima Rendón and Dévora Medina of El Salvador, and Cristian Oporta and Ángel Carranza of Costa Rica, emerged as the undefeated champions of the second edition of the Under 17 Central American Beach Volleyball Championship held at La Sabana Metropolitan Park in Costa Rica.
In the women’s division, the U17 gold medal went El Salvadors’ Fátima Rendón and Dévora Medina, who secured their third and fourth consecutive victories on Sunday. They defeated Guatemala’s Marisabel González and Fátima Reina 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) and the host team’s Amanda Villegas and Luciana Soto 2-0 (21-18, 21-14).
The Costa Rican duo of Villegas/Soto claimed the silver medal with a 3-1 record, while González/Reina from Guatemala finished third with a 2-2 record.
In the men’s division, Cristian Oporta and Ángel Carranza of Costa Rica won the U17 championship, marking a back-to-back title for Costa Rica. Oporta celebrated his second gold medal in this category.
Oporta and Carranza concluded the event with three consecutive victories, remaining undefeated without losing a single set, successfully defending the Central American crown for their country.
On Sunday, they defeated Guatemala’s Robin Oliva and Fredy Luna 2-0 (21-10, 21-17).
The second-place finish went to Oliva/Luna of Guatemala with 2-1 record, while the bronze medal was secured by Nicaragua’s duo, Mattew Kempf and Diego Cardoza who ended with 1-2 record.
