Gigantes of Adjuntas Rally at “La Gelito” and Hand the Changos Their Seventh Straight Loss

NARANJITO, Puerto Rico – November 15, 2025 – Gigantes de Adjuntas came from behind to defeat the Changos de Naranjito in five thrilling sets at the legendary Gelito Ortega Court, in a clash that went the distance and left both teams earning points in the standings.

Adjuntas claimed the victory with set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, and 16-14.

With this win, Gigantes added two points and secured their second victory in nine outings, totaling eight points to move into sixth place in the standings. The Changos, meanwhile, suffered their seventh consecutive loss and now hold a 1-8 record with six points, anchored at the bottom of the table.

In the first meeting between both teams, it was the Changos who came out on top in straight sets.

With the Changos leading two sets to one, Adjuntas held a 12-11 edge in the fourth set, reaching the technical timeout after an offensive error by Naranjito from the back row.

The set remained tight until the final moments, when a defensive lapse by the Changos tied the score at 21. A block by Mark Olsen put the Giants ahead 22-21.

Sebastián Negrón tied it at 22 with an effective attack from zone two, but the Gigantes forced the fifth set with a run of three straight points: a service error by Negrón, an attack error by Clarke Godbold from zone four, and a sharp spike by Cristian Encarnación from zone four that landed in zone six to close the set 25-22.

The decisive set was not for the faint of heart. The teams traded points from 2 to 11, when Adjuntas took a slight 13-11 lead with an Encarnación attack and a positive block.

Naranjito responded with two straight points to tie it at 13, and they later pulled even at 14. However, the Gigantes sealed the victory with another kill by Encarnación and an attack error by Godbold on a cross-court swing from zone four.

On offense for Adjuntas, William Rivera led the way with 21 points (19 kills and 2 aces), followed by Cristian Encarnación with 16, Mark Olsen with 12, and Roberto Pérez with 11. Joseph Kauliakamoa Jr. tallied an impressive 45 assists.

For the Changos, new reinforcement Cole Gillis scored 20 points, while Sebastián Negrón added 14, Clarke Godbold 13, and Luis Candelario 10. Arturo Iglesias distributed 35 assists.
