Honduras Earns Important Victory Over Belize in the XV AFECAVOL U19 Central American Championship

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2025. – Honduras delivered a convincing performance, defeating Belize with little resistance 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-15), to claim an important first victory during the second day of competition at the XV AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship.

Honduras closed the group stage with a 1-1 win-loss record in Pool A, while Belize suffered its first loss and will face Nicaragua on the third day of competition to determine the qualification positions for the next round.

Honduras celebrates

The Honduran squad outperformed Belize in all aspects of the game, leading in attack points 38-20, service 9-6, and even scoring more blocking points with 5, while Belize surprisingly failed to register any in that category. Belize also gave away 23 points on unforced errors, compared to Honduras’ 21.

For Honduras, Sofía Ghadesi led the attack with 15 points, followed by María Merino with 10. For Belize, Rhea Tsai stood out with 9 points.

After the match, María Merino, captain of Honduras, said: “We are very happy with this victory, but we must stay focused for what’s next. This win gives us a lot of confidence, and we hope to fix the mistakes we made in this match so we can keep improving.”

Meanwhile, Kevanna Sebastian, Belize’s assistant coach, stated: “I feel that we did little in this match; the team can do much better. We will prepare for our next game, where we’ll be looking for the victory.”
