PONCE, Puerto Rico, March 12, 2026. – At Salvador Dijols Court, the Atenienses of Manatí and the Leonas of Ponce staged a five-set battle that ended with a victory for the home team, who defended their territory Thursday night in the Women’s Superior Volleyball League.
Ponce earned two of the three available points, while Manatí collected one in the loss.
The set scores were 18-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-10.
In the fifth set, Leonas opened with a 7-2 run that included a back-row attack error by Karla Santos and never looked back. The hosts secured control of the set by extending the score to 12-6 thanks to two consecutive attacks from zone four by Kristin Lux.
They eventually closed out the set and the match 15-10 following an offensive error by Shaylee Myers from the same zone.
With the victory, Ponce improved its record to 7-11 with 21 total points, remaining in fifth place. Meanwhile, Atenienses holds fourth place with a 7-12 record and 22 points.
Ponce’s offense was led by Abby Akey with 17 points, Jordan Wilson with 16, and Kristin Lux with 12.
For Manatí, Karla Santos led with 19 points, followed by Shaylee Myers with 14, Emily Elliot with 11, and Elise Goetzinger with 10.
In team statistics, Ponce outperformed Manatí 53-47 in attacks, 14-8 in blocks, 103-84 in digs, 48-46 in receptions, and 24-10 in assists. Manatí led in service aces, 7-4.
Action in the Women’s Superior Volleyball League continues Friday, March 13 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, with the Pinkin of Corozal facing the Cangrejeras of Santurce.
