GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, January 9, 2026. – The Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF) of Puerto Rico, held its official press conference this Friday at the restaurant Our House, La Casa del Voleibol, in San Patricio Plaza, where final details of the 2026 season were announced. The season will begin on January 15.
The event was attended by representatives from four franchises: Cangrejeras de Santurce, Valencianas de Juncos, Pinkin de Corozal, and Leonas de Ponce, who shared their plans, reinforcements, and expectations for the new campaign. Criollas de Caguas and Atenienses de Manatí were unable to participate on this occasion but remain active in their preparations for the season.
The season will open on Thursday, January 15, when the Leonas de Ponce visit the Atenienses de Manatí in the first game of the schedule.
The Puerto Rico Volleyball Federation (FPV) will hold an official recognition for Ivonne Pérez, to whom the season is dedicated, on Friday, January 16, at the Roger Mendoza court in Caguas, prior to the match between the Criollas de Caguas and the Valencianas de Juncos.
During today’s press conference, Friday the 9th, the dedication of the season to Ivonne Pérez was made official and details of her outstanding career were shared. Although she was not present because she resides in the United States, a video was shown in which she expressed her gratitude for the recognition and shared highlights of her career as a volleyball player.
Representing her in person was her cousin, Ivette Burgos. Ivonne Pérez will arrive on the island next Wednesday and will be present at the opening game in Caguas.
Those in attendance at the press conference included: Dr. César Trabanco, president of the FPV; José Marxuach, vice president of the FPV; Gerardo Negón, secretary of the FPV; Arnaldo Piñero, director and supervisor of refereeing; and José R. Servera, LVSF tournament director.
In his remarks, Dr. Trabanco stated the importance of unity among the league, players, and fans: “We invite all volleyball fans to support this season, which promises a high level of competition. Our teams are ready, our players are motivated, and our expectations are high. We want every court to become a meeting point to celebrate the sport that brings us together as a country.”
As a prelude to the official start, a preseason tournament will be held this Saturday and Sunday, featuring five of the league’s six teams, serving as the first competitive barometer of the campaign in Manatí.
Postseason format
Tournament director Attorney José R. Servera presented the competitive format that will govern the road to the championship. The six teams qualified for the postseason will be: Caguas, Santurce, Corozal, Manatí, Juncos, and Ponce.
The system will be organized as follows:
- Round Robin is divided into two groups:
- Group A: positions 1 – 3 – 6
- Group B: positions 2 – 4 – 5
- The top team from each group advances to the semifinals.
- Semifinal matchups based on regular-season record:
- Series A: best record vs. worst record among the four qualified teams
- Series B: second-best record vs. third-best record
The semifinals will be played in a best-of-seven format; the first two teams to win four matches, will advance to the Final. The winners will compete in the Grand Final, also best of seven games.
