MANATÍ, Puerto Rico, January 15, 2026.- The Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF) season tipped off Thursday night with a single match on the schedule, as the Atenienses de Manatí got off on the right foot by defending their home court at the Juan Aubín Cruz Coliseum, defeating tournament newcomers the Leonas de Ponce 3–1 (23–25, 25–18, 25–14, 25–21).
Manatí’s offense featured four players in double figures, led by Karla Santos with 17 points, all coming from attacks. She was followed by Solimar Cestero and Shea Rubright with 14 points each, along with the 11 points contributed by Deja Robinson.
For Ponce, Jordan Wilson led the offensive output with 16 points, while Abby Akey added 15.
In team statistics, Manatí dominated in attacks 63–46, aces 2–1, digs 86–69, and receptions 42–41. Ponce, meanwhile, was superior in blocks 10–8 and assists 22–10.
With the win, the Atenienses (1–0) collected all three points available from the match.
On Friday, the Valencianas de Juncos will visit the Criollas de Caguas at the Roger Mendoza court, where the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation will hold the official recognition of the season’s dedication to former volleyball player Ivonne Pérez, the first Puerto Rican to reinforce a European club when she joined Tormo Barberá de Xàtiva in Spain, setting a precedent that inspired later generations of Puerto Rican athletes to compete in international leagues.
