Men’s Semifinals Set at the Central American Games: Costa Rica & Guatemala and El Salvador & Nicaragua

JALAPA, Guatemala, October 27, 2025.– The men’s beach volleyball semifinals of the XII Central American Games Guatemala 2025 will take place this Tuesday at the Jalapa Sports Complex, featuring matchups between Costa Rica and Guatemala, and El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The first semifinal is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., with Julián Araya and Jhostin Varela of Costa Rica taking on Edgar Maldonado and José Izaguirre of Guatemala. Then, twin brothers Christopher and Yoel Guardado of El Salvador will meet the defending champions, Rubén Mora and Dany López of Nicaragua.

Costa Rica’s duo Varela/Araya advanced to the semifinals undefeated with a perfect 6-0 record in the preliminary round. In their last match, they dominated Brandon Fehr and Edgar Martínez of Belize 2-0 (21-10, 21-11), reaffirming their status as tournament favorites.

Meanwhile, Guatemala’s Maldonado/Izaguirre secured their semifinal spot with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-13) victory over José González and Jason Quintero of Panama. In the first set, Panama took an early 8-6 lead, but Guatemala tied it 11-11 thanks to a strong block from Maldonado and powered through to close it 21-18. Boosted by home-court support, the hosts controlled the second set with a quick 10-3 lead, maintaining their advantage to seal the win.

Costa Rica

Earlier in the day, Maldonado/Izaguirre had finished the preliminary phase with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-18) victory over Irvin Reyes and Manuel Serrano of Honduras, coming from behind in the second set after trailing 7-11.

The Salvadoran twins Guardado/Guardado booked their place in the semifinals after defeating Reyes/Serrano of Honduras 2-0 (21-13, 21-12). In the match that decided second place in the preliminary round, they fell in a thrilling battle against López/Mora of Nicaragua, who came from behind to win 2-1 (23-25, 21-17, 15-11). After dropping the first set 23-25, Nicaragua rallied with powerful offense in the second to force a tiebreak. With the score tied 8-8 in the final set, a decisive spike from Rubén Mora and key defensive plays by Dany López gave Nicaragua the momentum to close the match.

Nicaragua

To secure their semifinal berth, the defending champions López/Mora defeated the Belizean team Fehr/Martínez 2-0 (21-13, 21-11), displaying their experience and stability on the sand. Fehr/Martínez finished in seventh place in the event.

On the final day of competition, Honduras (Serrano/Reyes) will face Panama (González/Quintero) in the fifth-place match.
