Nicaragua Advances Undefeated to the Semifinals at the 15th AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 13, 2025. – Nicaragua secured the top position in Pool B and a ticket to the semifinal round after defeating Belize 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21) on the third day of the 15th AFECAVOL U19 Women’s Central American Championship.

Nicaragua improved its record to 2-0, holding on to first place in Proup B. Honduras, which did not play today, remained in second place with a 1-1 record, earning the other available spot in the semifinal round.

Belize, meanwhile, closes the group stage with two losses and no wins. They will face El Salvador in the next round in the battle for positions 5–6 in the final ranking.

Valentina Martínez led Nicaragua’s offense against Belize with 17 points, supported by Emely Gutiérrez with 11. For Belize, Emaun Marín was the only player to reach double digits, scoring 11 points.

Nicaragua dominated in attacking points 39-27 and service points 5-1, while Belize performed better in blocking 5-4. However, Belize committed 30 unforced errors compared to Nicaragua’s 25.

After the match, Nicaragua’s captain, Franchesca Viera, commented: “We feel very happy with this result that gives us the qualification to the semifinals. Despite everything, things haven’t been easy at all, but we have pushed through. A more demanding stage is coming, but we are approaching it with a winning attitude and the desire to finish on the podium.”

Meanwhile, Belize’s captain, Sara Safa, said: “I feel that we gave everything we could against Nicaragua. I’m proud of each of my teammates. Despite the mistakes made during the game, we always supported each other. We all want to win. We have one last opportunity left, and we’re going to give it our all to achieve that victory we want so much.”
