Managua, Nicaragua, December 9, 2025.- Honduras and Nicaragua earned their first wins on the opening day of the II Central American U15 Girl’s Invitational Championship authorized by AFECAVOL.
For the second consecutive year, the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation, in coordination with the Municipality of Managua, is organizing the U15 Girl’s Invitational Tournament, which this year features the national teams of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and host nation Nicaragua. The event is taking place from December 9 to 13 at the Volleyball Gymnasium of the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports (IND).

HON 3-0 GUA
Honduras defeated Guatemala in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-22) in the match that officially opened the championship.
The Honduran side showed greater consistency throughout the match, outperforming Guatemala in kills (36-19) and aces (9-6), while conceding fewer points on unforced errors (28-27). Both teams finished even in blocks with 3 points each.
Offensively for Honduras, Luna Janania led with 15 points, while for Guatemala, Appril García stood out with 7.
After the match, Honduras coach Alex Carias said: “I’m satisfied with the team’s performance. I know they can grow even more, but this experience will help them a lot in the future.”
Meanwhile, Guatemala’s coach Juan Pablo Castañeda commented: “We made too many errors; I think we lacked a bit more attitude and grit, but that’s sports.”

Nicaragua’s players overcame early nerves to defeat El Salvador 3-0 (25-19, 25-6, 25-12).
Nicaragua conceded 30 points on unforced errors compared to 24 from the Salvadoran team, but the hosts were superior in kills (22-6), aces (28-1), and blocks (1-0).
For Nicaragua, Alejandra Rodríguez led the attack with 10 points, followed by Kered Leiva with 9. For El Salvador, Adriana Zelaya and María Sierra finished with 2 points each.
Following the victory, Nicaragua captain Ixchel Talavera stated: “We are very happy to have earned this win. It’s normal to feel nervous in the first match, but as we get into rhythm, we will show the best of our game.”
El Salvador’s captain, Nataly Michelle Ayala, added: “Our mission was to give our best effort to get the win, but it didn’t happen. We need to analyze the mistakes we made in this match to improve in our next game.”
