LARES, Puerto Rico – November 1, 2025. – In the only match on Saturday’s schedule of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM), the Patriotas de Lares successfully defended their home court at the Félix Méndez Acevedo Coliseum, defeating the Cafeteros de Yauco 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21) in front of a thrilled crowd of approximately 2,100 fans.
With this victory, Lares earned three points, kept their undefeated record after four outings, and tied for first place in the standings with the two-time defending champions, Caribes de San Sebastián. Both teams now have 11 points.
Yauco, meanwhile, failed to score points and dropped to a 2-2 record with 5 points, placing them fifth in the standings.
With the match tied at one set apiece, Lares took a 17-10 lead thanks to effective attacking from Pablo Guzmán on the outside and a service ace from Nick West. However, the Cafeteros responded with a 10-5 run, including a block against Guzmán, closing the gap to 22-20 still in favor of Lares, who called a timeout.
After the break, Jessie Colón blocked Jair Santiago, bringing Yauco within one point of a tie. Another block on Guzmán leveled the score at 23. Lares reached set point at 24-23 following an attack error by Diego Negrón and clinched the set with a block against the same player.
In the fourth set, an effective block by Nick West and a hitting error by the Cafeteros gave Lares a 19-16 lead. The home team reached match point at 24-20 with a quick attack from Jonathan Rodríguez through the middle and sealed the victory 25-21 with a powerful spike from Gabriel Colón, who broke through Yauco’s block from position two.
The Patriotas’ offense was well-balanced among Jair Santiago (16 pts), Nick West (14 pts), and Garnett Muagututia (12 pts). For Yauco, Diego Rosich contributed 11 points.
Lares outperformed Yauco in attacks (46-36), aces (9-1), digs (41-36), and assists (25-22), while Yauco held the edge in blocks (12-9).
