COROZAL, Puerto Rico, December 19, 2025. – The Plataneros de Corozal defeated the Changos de Naranjito 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22) at the Carmen Z. Figueroa in the opening match of Series A of the Liga de Voleibol Superior Masculina (LVSM) Quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals are played in a best-of-three format; the first team to win two matches advances. With the victory, Corozal moves one win away from reaching the Semifinal Series.
The win marked Corozal’s third victory at the Carmen Z. Figueroa this season, in addition to seven undefeated wins at the Juan C. Berríos in Barranquitas, thus maintaining a perfect home record.
With the match tied at one set apiece, the Plataneros opened the third set with a commanding 8-1 run, fueled by a block on Clarke Godbold and an ace by Luzgardo Liciaga, a lead they never relinquished. Corozal extended the margin to 21-10 following a service error by Godbold and closed the set 25-14 after an attack error from zone two by Sebastián Negrón.
In the fourth set, both teams stayed close until the final stretch, with consecutive ties from point 17 through 22. However, three straight offensive errors by the Changos sealed the win for Corozal: two failed attacks by Cole Gillis from zone two and another by Clarke Godbold from zone four.
The Plataneros led in attacks (57-47), blocks (13-5), aces (4-2), and assists (26-25). Naranjito held the advantage in digs (46-39). Both teams finished with 44 receptions.
Corozal’s offense featured two players in double figures: Jalen Penrose with 23 points and Spencer Olivier with 20.
For Naranjito, Clarke Godbold led with 17 points, followed by Cole Gillis with 13 and Jackson Rivera with 11.
The second match of the series will be played on Sunday, December 21, at 6:00 p.m. at the legendary Gelito Ortega.
The other quarterfinal series, between the Patriotas de Lares and the Gigantes de Carolina, begins this Saturday at the Félix Méndez Acevedo Coliseum starting at 8:00 p.m.
