Puerto Rico and United States earn victories at Women’s U21 World Championship

August 9, 2025.– Puerto Rico secured a thrilling win over host Indonesia, while the United States extended their unbeaten streak in the tournament. The Dominican Republic, Canada, and Mexico lost their respective matches at the event being held in Indonesia.

Puerto Rico 3 – Indonesia 2
Puerto Rico closed the third day of action with a thrilling 3-2 (17-25, 28-26, 15-25, 25-23, 17-15) victory over Indonesia. Puerto Rico came back from a 2-1 set deficit to overcome the home team. Indonesia outperformed Puerto Rico in attacks (65-60) and blocks (9-7), but the Caribbean side had the edge in serving (7-4). Once again, Chareika Carrión led her team, this time to victory, with 30 points – 28 of them from attacks. Valeria Núñez added 21 points for Puerto Rico. The win leaves Puerto Rico with a 1-2 record, tied in the group standings with Indonesia and Serbia.

United States 3 – Mexico 0
The United States earned their third win, this time against fellow NORCECA team Mexico, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-18). The Americans outperformed Mexico in every statistical category: attacks (34-21), blocks (12-3), and serves (10-4). Halle Thompson scored 12 points in the victory for Team USA, while Andrea Ravell tallied 10 points for Mexico. The win keeps the United States at the top of Pool B with a perfect 3-0 record, while Mexico remains in sixth place with a 0-3 record.

Canada 1 – Vietnam 3
Canada could not hold off Vietnam, falling 1-3 (19-25, 26-24, 19-25, 5-25), with a fourth set to forget. Vietnam led Canada in all aspects of the game: attacks (53-50), blocks (12-9), and serves (7-5). Additionally, the North Americans committed 29 unforced errors, helping Vietnam’s victory. Claire Carter led Canada with 16 points (12 attacks, 3 blocks, and 1 ace), while Logan King contributed 11 points and Ella Piskorz added 10.

Dominican Republic 0 – China 3
The Dominican Republic opened the third day with a tough 0-3 (11-25, 15-25, 11-25) loss to China. The Asians were dominant in every category: attacks (38-21), blocks (7-1), and serves (12-2). Jismeily Flete was the top scorer for the Dominican side with 7 points. The loss leaves the Dominican Republic with a 1-2 record, tied with Croatia and Korea in Pool A.
