MANAGUA, Nicaragua, November 19, 2025. – Puerto Rico earned its second victory in Pool A of the NORCECA U17 Boys’ Continental Championship with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) win over Barbados.
The defending champions, who defeated Costa Rica in four sets in their opening match, improved in their second outing thanks to their strong serving, scoring nine aces, and a powerful offensive performance that made the difference against Barbados.
Puerto Rico dominated in attacks with a wide 37-12 margin and in aces 9-1. Barbados held the advantage in blocking, 6-3. Puerto Rico committed more errors than Barbados (32-26).

Fabian Rivera led Puerto Rico with 12 points, but most players contributed offensively. For Barbados, Joshua Ashby finished with seven points.
Puerto Rico will look to secure first place in their pool and a semifinal berth against Nicaragua at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Costa Rica will face Barbados at 6:00 p.m.
Héctor Lavergne, Puerto Rico team captain: “It feels very good to earn a win against a strong team like Barbados. We wanted to win to move forward in our group and aim for first place. The highlight today was that the whole team played, everyone contributed to the victory, and I believe we will keep improving; this is just the beginning.”
Hernán Torres, Puerto Rico head coach: “It’s always good to get a win, especially when it helps us build confidence for the rest of the tournament. We thought the match would be a bit easier, but the opponent pushed us, and we battled throughout. Our serve was very good, but we need to improve in other areas, although overall the team was well organized.”
