MANATÍ, Puerto Rico, March 24, 2026. – In the continuation of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF) Quarterfinals, the Leonas de Ponce stole a road victory at the Juan Aubín Cruz Coliseum, earning their first postseason win by defeating the Atenienses de Manatí 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 31-29).
This marked the second loss in as many outings for the Atenienses in Section B, where both the Criollas de Caguas and the Leonas de Ponce remain undefeated (1-0). The two teams will face off next Thursday as group play continues, with each team playing four matches in pursuit of two semifinal spots.
With the Leonas leading the match 2-1 in sets and the fourth set tied at 29 in extra points, Manatí’s defense pulled back anticipating a powerful back-row attack from American Sherridan Atkinson. Atkinson read the defense, softened her hit, and placed it into position 6.
On the next play, Ponce sealed the match with a block on Karla Santos.
Ponce’s offense was led by Atkinson, who scored 36 points (35 kills and 1 block), and Abby Akey with 14 points. For the Atenienses, Emily Elliott scored 21 points, Karla Santos added 16, and Solimar Cestero contributed 10.
The Leonas outperformed Manatí in every statistical category: 63-58 in kills, 13-7 in blocks, 90-78 in digs, 22-19 in assists, 6-2 in aces, and 65-45 in receptions.
Quarterfinal action continues this Wednesday in Section A, when the Cangrejeras de Santurce (1-0) hosts the Valencianas de Juncos at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum starting at 8:12 p.m.
It will be Juncos’ first postseason match. The other team in this section is Pinkin de Corozal, who hold a 0-1 record.
Quarterfinal Format: The Quarterfinals are played with the six teams that participated in the Regular Season, divided into two groups of three based on their final standings.
