SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 23, 2024. – The quarterfinal series of the Puerto Rico Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) kicks off tonight, with the 8 qualified teams divided into four series.
SERIES A: METS DE GUAYNABO VS. INDIOS DE MAYAGÜEZ
The Mets de Guaynabo (15-5, 45 points), leaders of the metro section, begin their quarterfinal series against the Indios de Mayagüez, who failed to secure any victories in 20 matches during the regular season, finishing in fourth and last place in the island section.
The head-to-head series between the two was dominated by the Mets 2-0, with the Indios managing to win only one set.
Mayagüez needs to improve their serving, as they recorded a staggering 32 service errors, with a negative average of 4.57 per set.
The Mets, with a strong offense with their outside hitters led by Inovel Romero, Hisham Yousri, Gianluca Grasso, and Gregory Torres, guided by setter Kevin Rodríguez, will be tough to beat.
SERIES B: CHANGOS DE NARANJITO VS. GIGANTES DE ADJUNTAS
In the other match of the night, Gigantes de Adjuntas will face the Changos de Naranjito.
The Gigantes, in their head-to-head series with the Changos, committed 39 attack errors, equivalent to almost two sets, with a negative average of 5.57. If they can address this weakness, their chances of victory will improve.
The series was dominated by the Changos 2-0, under the direction of Jamille Torres Rosario, who is also the coach of Puerto Rico’s Men’s National Volleyball Team.
Naranjito finished the regular season in second place in the metro section with a 12-8 record and 37 points. Adjuntas finished third place in the island section with a 5-15 record and 15 points.
MINIMIZING ERRORS, KEY FOR INDIOS AND GIGANTES
To have a chance of victory, both the Indios and Gigantes will need to minimize their errors. Effort and focus on every play will be crucial to competing against the top teams in their respective series.
The matches begin at 8:00 pm tonight, Wednesday, October 23, at the legendary Gelito Ortega court in Naranjito and the Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo.
The Quarterfinal Series will be played in a best-of-five format, where the first team to win three games will advance.
The teams in the 1st position of Series A and C, and the 2nd position teams in Series B and D, will have home-court advantage.
In this phase, the point system will not be used, only wins and losses.
