SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 26, 2023.- In an exciting game of many spectacular spikes and blocks, the United States defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21) to win gold in the third edition of the Women’s Volleyball Final Six NORCECA Pan American Cup that took place at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Pavilion.
For the United States, Simone Lee had 29 points, her captain Sarah Parsons added 18, while Taylor Mims and Madeleine Gates contributed 14 and 13 points respectively. For the Dominican Republic, Yonkaira Peña stood out with 17 points, followed by Jineiry Martínez and Gaila González with 10 points each.
Brad Rostratter, coach of the United States: It was a very exciting game with a very exciting atmosphere, we are very happy to have competed here and to have competed with a team as strong as the Dominican Republic and achieved victory, I think that if I would not have used different lineups in previous games to keep everyone on pace and without our depth on the bench this would not have been possible.
Marcos Kwiek, coach of the Dominican Republic: It was a game fought all the time, that leaves us happy, today we faced a team that was very consistent, very solid in all aspects, we tried to make some changes, some adjustments and it didn’t work out for us but it’s part of what we have done, rotate players, at no time during the tournament did we have the same six players playing all the time so that they were in rhythm, but that is what we need, put young people to play with that pressure so that they learn, now comes a tournament Continental that is very important and we have to play with more intensity.
