Argentina Defeats Mexico at Boys’ U17 World Championship

DOHA, Qatar, August 21, 2026.- Mexico fell to Argentina 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday in the preliminary round of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Mexico now holds a 0-2 record in Pool C after falling to Brazil and Argentina in its first two matches of the preliminary round.

Despite the straight-set result, Mexico held a 45-44 advantage in attacks and kept the pressure on Argentina, particularly in the second and third sets, both decided 25-22.

Blocking made the biggest difference for Argentina, which scored 12 points from blocks and added three aces.

Francisco Sebastián Merino Romero was the match’s leading scorer with 17 points for Mexico, while Yanis Alexander Medrano Jiménez added 14.

For Argentina, captain Valentin Tomas Bianchi led the scoring with 15 points, all on attacks, followed by Juan Bautista Alonso with 14 points, including four blocks.

Mexico will have a rest day on Saturday, August 22. Cuba, the other NORCECA representative, will face Romania at 2:00 p.m. local time.
