June 17, 2026. – Canada rallied from one set down to defeat the Netherlands in the opening match of Pool 6 in Bangkok, Thailand, while the United States opened Week Two of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League with a victory over the Dominican Republic in Pool 5 in Pasig City, Philippines.
Excellent Victory for Canada over the Netherlands

In the first match of the day in Bangkok, Canada came back after dropping the opening set against the Netherlands to claim a 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20) victory and improve its record to 3 wins and 2 losses, with 10 points, while the Dutch fell to 2-3 and 6 points.
The North Americans earned 9.99 FIVB World Ranking points with the result and moved up one position in the standings, overtaking Serbia to reach ninth place.
Canadian opposite Kiera Van Ryk delivered an impressive performance with six aces and a total of 26 points. Her match-high tally also included three kill blocks. Van Ryk finished just three points shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone in VNL competition, putting herself in an excellent position to achieve the mark in her next match, scheduled for Friday.
Middle blocker and team captain Emily Maglio posted a 60% success rate in attack and also reached double figures with 11 points.
In team statistics, Canada dominated the Europeans in attacks (53-41) and service aces (11-4), while the Dutch held the advantage in blocks (12-8).
United States Defeats Dominican Republic in Straight Sets

The United States improved its record to 4-1 after defeating the Dominican Republic in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-12), in the opening match of Pool 5 in the Philippines.
In team statistics, the Americans outperformed the Dominicans in attacks (43-31) and blocks (8-2), while both teams recorded two service aces.
It was a match with relatively few unforced errors. The United States committed 15, while the Dominican Republic recorded 22.
Three American players reached double digits in scoring. Jordan Thompson led the way with 15 points and accounted for both of her team’s aces. Dana Rettke, who contributed five blocks, and Logan Eggleston each finished with 10 attack points.
For the Dominican Republic, Yonkaira Peña was the team’s leading scorer with 8 points.
