SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 22, 2026.– Canada limited Trinidad and Tobago to just 21 points in a dominant 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-5) victory in Pool A of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at the “Prof. Ricardo Gioriver Arias” Volleyball Palace.
It was Canada’s second victory of the tournament, which also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship. Canada will face the United States on Sunday, the final day of pool play, while Trinidad and Tobago will take on Mexico. The top team in each pool will advance directly to the semifinals.
Canada held a commanding advantage in attacks (39-8) and serves (18-0), while Trinidad and Tobago held a 2-1 edge in blocks. The Canadians also committed fewer unforced errors, 11 to Trinidad and Tobago’s 17.
Hilary Howe led Canada’s offense with 16 points on 14 attacks and two aces, followed by Anna Smrek with 15 points and Nyadholi Thokbuom with 10.
For Trinidad and Tobago, Thia Wilson scored four points and Rayquelle Dickson added three.
Giovanni Guidetti, Canada’s coach: “We did our job. We were able to give playing time to all the players to continue putting into practice what we’ve been training, and we got our second win in the tournament.”
Gideon Dickson, Trinidad and Tobago’s coach: “Canada is a strong and very dominant team for us, but this is good for the girls since most of them are between 17 and 19 years old, and this will give them valuable experience for the future.”
