Cuba’s Alayo/Diaz and Canada’s Schachter/Dearing move forward in Tlaxcala

TLAXCALA, Mexico, October 10, 2023.- Cuba’s Jorge Alayo/Noslen Diaz and Canada’s Sam Schachter/Daniel Dearing advanced to the Round of 32 at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

Jorge Alayo and Noslen Diaz topped pool I with two victories and one loss, after beating Mexico’s Ricardo Galindo and Oziel Aguirre 2-0 (21-18, 21-11) on Monday.

Sam Schachter/Daniel Dearing beat Abicha/El Azhari of Morocco 2-0 (21-19, 21-10) to claim second place in pool L with a 2-1 record.

Mexico’s Miguel Sarabia and Juan Virgen finished third place in pool L after falling 0-2 (24-26, 17-21) to Vitor Felipe/Renato of Brazil.

Sarabia and Virgen will play the ‘lucky loser’ round on Tuesday against Miles Evans and Chase Budinger of the United States for another chance to make it into the Round of 32, which will be held on Wednesday.

Beach Volleyball World Championships – Match Schedule and Results

In the women’s field, Americans Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft (2-1) also advanced winning pool I after beating Xue/X.Y. Xia of China 2-0 (22-20, 21-14).

Making it into the ‘lucky loser’ round are Canadians Sarah Pavan and Molly McBain, and Mexicans Atenas Gutierrez and Abril Flores. Pavan/McBain beat Allanis Navas and Maria Gutierrez of Puerto Rico 2-0 (21-19, 21-12) to finish third in pool H. Gutierrez/Flores, third in pool L after falling to Swiss Vergé-Depré A./Mäder.

On Tuesday, Pavan and McBain will face Ariana/Karelys of Ecuador, while Gutierrez and Flores play Klinger D./Klinger R. of Austria, for a spot in the Round of 32.
