GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, August 9, 2026.- Guatemala defeated Honduras 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-13) to finish in seventh place at the Boys’ U17 Pan American Cup, held at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City.
Guatemala controlled the match, although that dominance was not clearly reflected in the scores of the first two sets. In the third, Guatemala built a big lead, allowing some players who had not yet taken the court to make their tournament debut.
Guatemala led the match statistics with advantages of 43-20 in attacks, 5-2 in blocks and 8-3 in serves. Guatemala committed 22 unforced errors, while Honduras recorded 19.
Guatemala finished the tournament with a 2-4 win-loss record, while Honduras finished 0-5.
Guatemala’s Oscar Velásquez was led all scorers with 17 points, followed by teammates Javier Pérez with 11 and Eduardo Palala with 10.
For Honduras, Josué Ávila was the leading scorer with 6 points.
Juan David Zúñiga, captain of Guatemala: “We did not achieve our initial goal, but we gave everything we had. It was a great experience. We played against very strong teams, and that helps us improve and do things better in future tournaments.”
