Canadian outside hitter Julian Josephs topped scoring with 11 points, teammates Hendrix Lepp and Justin Jamieson scored 10 apiece. Piere Gill of Barbados was that team’s top scorer with 8 points (7 attack points and a block).

Canada’s Head Coach Adam Schriemer said after the match:“I am happy with the guys today, for a lot of them it’s their first time playing internationally for Canada, so the nerves were there, but we expected that. In the middle of the first set, we started to play a little cleaner and settle in and then we were in a good spot.  … Once we found our competitive consistency, we were good and as then as the game went on, we wavered a bit. So we will work on that and be better for tomorrow.”

The tournament runs from May 12 to 17 and is a qualifier for the U19 World Championship.
